Ok, so I'm still sorta puzzled about what these guys did to the Shrike to kill him. I know they used an EMP, but what did they do after? Did they cut off his spikes and use them to stab him to death? If so, I believe that someone with a sharp edge could've done that. I just need someone to clearly explain this whole situation for me.

Kassad: No, The Shrike is almost impossible to smash without superhuman strength. During my first battle with THe Shrike, I landed what should have been several killing blows on it. None of them made a single scratch on him.

"If what Doom told us is correct, they used super-strength to smash him once the EMP stopped him from doing his time-manipulation tricks." Ukyo told Moon Knight. "I suppose if any of them got injured while doing it, Doom probably did them the favor of healing them."

"It's clear that Doom's machines allow any one of us to kill, even those without powers." said Prez.

He then turned to the Undertaker. "It makes me sad the way you like to trade in violence. All those empty threats and blustering, they're only a cry for help, deep down. But I think you'd be capable of this, Undertaker."

Captain America was slightly shocked at the day's turn of events. Finding out Darth Vader had been a member of the Doom Squad didn't surprise him. Neither did the Shrike's destruction at the hands of the Doom squad. What surprised him was Shrike's inclusion in the Secret Avengers. This changed everything, not only the non-traitor's chances of winning but Cap's perception of the game. All along he had been narrowly operating under the assertation of good versus evil. But those rules didn't apply here, anybody could be a Traitor. He would need to try and be more choosy in his accusations in the future.

Cap was about to speak to the others when his name was called out but the Rogue Watcher.
Well it seems, there will be no new vigilante for the game. Nonetheless, the Rogue Watcher Report will continue. And for this report, I call front and center Captain America & Jeff-E! Plead your innocence!
As Cap began to speak the DMAX screen turned on, a video of the American Flag waved across it, the Star-Spangled banner playing softly in the background.

"Most of you here know me or know of me. You know my values. You know what I'll fight for. I wear the American Flag as my uniform. But it seems foolish to speak here about America as a country or even America as a government to all of us gathered. Most of us aren't even Americans. No. What I want to speak of is America as an ideal. The ideal of personal freedom. The ideal of personal rights. The ideal of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. This is what I believe in. There is a great injustice occurring on my world, my America. Even now as I say this to you, I am considered a criminal because I am fighting for what I believe is an unjust law. I did not make that decision lightly. Others choose to support it. Still others do nothing. I have stood for the American Ideal for decades and I will not allow that ideal to be tarnished by a few. Some call me a symbol and in their eyes I may be. But I am just a man, a man who fights for what he believes in."

"Doom's Game is an injustice to us all. And I will do all in my power to end it!"

OoC: Sorry for the inactivity it was my wifes birthday.

BiC: After the banishment and the new kill Columbo takes down some more notes. He lights a cigar and walks over to Meoth. "Excuse me Mr... um Meoth was it? I heard you were wanting to talk to me. I'm sorry, I was looking around at this place. That Dr. Doom fella may be a bad guy, but he sure has a nice place. As for who could have killed the Shrike I think your on the right track. I sounds like somebody had to be really strong to do it.I'm not sure who it is. I'm gonna think about it for a while before I vote. I'm just happy we got rid of one of those traitors."

Many interesting points had been established, largely by Ukyo and Meowth. In fact, they were the first to determine that Shrike must have been damaged by someone with superior strength. Perhaps that assumption is what led Moon Knight to vote for Captain America. The Rough Watcher had indeed appeared and had requested two players plead their cases. Captain America, one of the two, made a nice speech, but it did not sway me one way or the other.

Still, I said nothing. They were figuring out matters for themselves, as I was not. Confused, I kept thinking. With little evidence, I had mostly myself to rely on.

OOC: LOL!

IC:

Ukyo was impressed by Captain America's speech. The man had his faults, but he was a good speaker. In Ukyo's mind, this more than made up for his unthinking remark the other day. The man truly believed in the American Ideal, even when his country's government didn't appear to.

Ukyo didn't know much about the conflict Captain America was talking about. Apparently, Captain America was from the same world as the Hulk Cologne had met. Their heroes had some sort of disagreement over the passage of some new law, and things were spiraling out of control.

"Great speech, Captain." Ukyo said. "I don't know much about what's going on in your world, but a lot of what you said made sense to me."

Jade was getting a tad annoyed with Mantis. He percieved her as a person who did not understand the game deep enough, and replied:

"Well Mantis, to put it simply, everything you know about them, aside from the current powers they have and general personalities, are wrong. Anyone among anyone can be a traitor, Strange or Captain America or Prez may be a protector of the innocent outside this game, but inside it they could be one of the traitors.

Heck, we had the Shrike as a Secret Avenger. If we and Doom went by judgement calls instead of pure logic, Shrike would have been a traitor. In short outside this game, I will take your word about Strange, however, inside this game, he is like everyoen else including me: a possible traitor."

Ukyo turned to Mantis. "He's right, Mantis. We can't let existing friendships blind us to the possibility that our friends might be traitors. I'm glad Ranma isn't a part of this game. I wouldn't have wanted to have to vote out Ranchan. But I'd do it if I felt I had to."

"For what it's worth, I don't think Dr. Strange is one of the Doom Squad. But that's not the point. Dr. Doom has super-cosmic powers now. That gives him the ability to force people to do things they'd otherwise never do in their own worlds. Jade is right. Everyone's a possible traitor."

Cap shook his head in disgust at Moon Knight. Normally he would have let such a gross defamation of character go by, but not from Moon Knight. "This coming from a man who readily admits to cutting someone's face off. I guess I should have expected nothing less from an ex-mercenary."

Cap approached Mantis. He had heard some heated conversation between Mantis, Jade, and Ukyo. He seemed to insinuate himself in a way that separated Ukyo and Mantis from Jade. "Ukyo, thanks for the kind words about my speech. I don't mean to get all sentimental but I just can't help myself sometimes."

Cap looked at Mantis, "I meant to approach you earlier, but with everything going on its been kind of tough." He placed his hands on Mantis' shoulders, "Its good to see you well old friend." Cap turned towards Jade and spoke loudly for all to hear.

"I have been thinking about the day's events. The murder of Shrike would certainly need to be committed by someone with super strength from what Kassaad has told us. Not only that, but someone of great intelligence too. Someone smart enough to use some kind of EMP device. Someone with a brilliant tactical mind. A scientist? Maybe. A military man? Maybe." Cap continued staring at Jade. "Your uniform marks you as military Jade. And you must be incredibly smart to figure out how to raise the dead or clone the dead as you claim. Mantis has been adamant about accusing you and I thrust her judgment. Jade, I believe you could be a member of the Doom Squad."

I stood there stunned that I was accused by the Rogue Watcher

"Well to begin with, Watcher, whats up with your HUGE melon? Seriously I've always wanted to know, how do you guys maintain balance with that giant bulbous head, and those spindly little arms and legs? As far as my innocence goes, well outside Columbo here I'm probably the weakest person, almost everyone here is way out of my league. I've gotten in to a couple drunken fights but I have no superstrength, no training, plus I was one of the first to accuse Vader of being a traitor, if I was another traitor, why would I throw one of my allies under the bus? Especially one as powerful as Darth, before I even saw him say anything cutsey in that deep James Earl Jones voice? Now, Rogue Watcher I ask you... do you use Rogain?

Jeff-E 01-23-2007 09:41 AM

I had been thinking about my accusation all night finally I decided to cast my vote hoping others would follow my lead:

"Alright guys here goes, I vote for MOONKNIGHT, he has the knowledge and the gadgets to pull off these crimes, plus he's been known to cut folks faces off. Even though he is superior to the Batman people always say he is a ripoff of Bat's that would even explain the first kill. So there you go, I'm voting for one of my favorite characters... it's just bitter-sweet for me. If I'm right, I'm voting for a traitor, but at the same time a character I really enjoy reading about, and if I'm wrong... well then I suck. But there it is."

Superheroic 01-23-2007 10:28 AM

Cap continued to be impressed with Jeff. He had been right to recind his vote against Wolverine. He had been to right to accuse Darth Vader of being a member of the Doom Squad. Now Jeff looked to Moon Knight as a possible traitor. "Jeff, I've said it earlier but we all should listen to what you have to say. You're instincts are very good. If it comes down to it I'll stand with you in case Moon Knight tries anything against you."

Ukyo had actually slept better that night than she thought she would. To be fair, she had managed to get some things done in between the time Vader was banished and Doom had shown them the Shrike's remains. She had written a long letter to Cologne, she had read some of the other 'Traitor Game' books from the library, and she had tried to find out more about her fellow players.

All she had really found out was that Power Girl was from the same universe as that Superman who had been with Moon Knight in that other Traitor Game, and that she had Superman's powers. Despite everything, Ukyo wished she had had the chance to talk to Power Girl at least once. But Power Girl was practically dead now, and so was the Hulk, Monarch, and that Dentarthurdent. At this point, she would be surprised if any of them spoke up.

Much to Ukyo's surprise, she did not have any further nightmares about the Shrike or his Tree of Pain. The Shrike still scared her. She wondered if there really was any way to get rid of that terrible creature for good.

She awoke refreshed, and rejoined her fellow players. She saw that Jeff had voted for Moon Knight. "Moon Knight? I suppose he's as good a suspect as any." she said. "If he could slice a guy's face off and chop homicidal reindeer into pieces, he could have skinned Batman or vivisected Kabuto. And he might have found a way to kill the Shrike, too."

"But that whole thing with Dr. Dorian has me confused. Can we really be sure the real Moon Knight wasn't there when Batman did it? What about Dr. Dorian? Maybe there are still two Moon Knights. Maybe that Dr. Dorian was a fast learner and quickly got the hang of the Moon Knight thing. Maybe Marc Spector's innocent, but Dr. Dorian's the killer."

"The problem is, I think our host is counting both Moon Knights as one player. So I don't think we could vote out one without voting out the other."

"I've got some other good suspects. Can we really eliminate the Hulk just because he hasn't so much as said hello to us? If what I've heard about him is true, he's both a scientist and a human wrecking machine. He has both the brains and the brawn needed to smash the Shrike."

"I think I'll come to a decision later. We've still got several hours."

"You make some good points Ukyo," Cap began. "I've thought that Moon Knight's teleporting and replacement by another person could be a ploy to affect an alibi for himself. It sure is convenient that Marc Spector made his return only after the first kill."

"As for the Hulk," Cap walked over to the stasis-held green goliath, "Well, its possible Hulk could have been responsible for some, if not all of the killings. For one, you won't find anyone stronger. For another, he's a brilliant scientist. His alter ego Bruce Banner is anyway. If this version of the Hulk can transform between his Hulk and Banner personalities, they could pretty much accomplish almost anything."

"I know." said Ukyo. "It's a shame we haven't had a chance to get to know him yet, or Power Girl. Or that Monarch character. He seems like a really colorful sort. He could have really added something to this game."

"I just wish the Hulk would speak up. Then maybe he could defend himself. I don't like having to suspect people behind their backs like this."

Amidst all the discussion and suspicion, I examined the book Beta Ray Bill had grabbed from somewhere within the castle. I do not know what compelled me to do research on previous games, but it felt necessary. I was only skimming the details when I came to one item of interest. One member of the Suicide Squad, the previous name for the traitorous group, had deliberately attempted to remain silent or inactive in order to not be accused.

With the assumption that someone was deliberately not acting in order to avoid suspicion, I chose a candidate that could have been involved in one or more of the murders.

When the game is over I hope to have my blade feel all of your necks. I know my overacting about batman's death cost me the banishment. I was so overjoyed in remembering his girly screams that I hammed it up too much. So be it. it's not like we don't have more members out there to kill you all. Keep that in mind the next time you talk to someone, that he or she may planning your demise........O.k. you can turn it off now. What do we do now? take it to the editing room or something? What?
Kassad: I think you should all get rid of all superstrength people first. Only they can have enough power to smash The Shrike.
"I think that's a good idea, too." Ukyo told Kassad. "The problem is, there's a whole bunch of people to choose from who have super-strength. We can only banish one of them at a time. I don't think Doom's going to let us get away with banishing two people at once."

"Someone super-powerful did the actual smashing work. That narrows it down to...four, five, maybe six or seven suspects?" Ukyo said, looking frustrated.

Ukyo didn't really want to be doing this. She didn't really believe the Shrike was worth avenging. But she knew there were times when one did something because they had to do it, not because they particularly wanted to.

Smashed to Bits? Oh come on, it's gotta be the Hulk. How much more obvious can you get? Unless the Doom Squad's trying to confuse us. Yeah, that must be it. I say...Chris Jericho.

"Chris Jericho?"

Ukyo was genuinely surprised. "Honestly, Spider-man, he's not who I'd pick for this one. If we had to put people into categories here, I'd group him in with the Undertaker, Captain America, and...me. We're all trained in certain fighting styles, but otherwise we're just normal human beings."

"Doom said that after the Shrike got hit with the EMP, he was smashed to bits in seconds. I don't think any of us 'normal fighters' could have been the one to do it. We might have thought up the strategy, but the smashing had to have been done by someone more powerful than us."

Ukyo thought for a bit. "Spider-Man, there's something that's been bothering me about you. Every round, you randomly pick someone who seems really unlikely to have done it. Why IS that?"

Wow. I wuz toinin' inta one populah kitty! Dat Columbo guy told me he t'ought I wuz on da right track. An' da blonde handshakin' Pez guy encouraged me in my cause ta capture dat twoip's pikachu! I wish Jessie an' James coulda hoid alla' dat! Dey're always callin' me flea-brained 're somet'in. Ukyo also had a good point. Jus' cuz dat Bantha Red Bull guy looks like a Digimon, don't mean he is one! I wouldn't wanna make 'im mad... I felt a li'l ashamed- since jus' awhile ago I wuz complainin' cuz none a' da otha's seemed ta pay much mind to a talkin' cat's opinions. I should give ol' Baker Ribbon da benefit a' da doubt... or be real careful if I do talk to da mook.

Unfoh-tu-nately, I wuz runnin' outta time ta come up wit' a vote. My li'l brain wuz rattlin' around. Who do I choose? Someone supah strong who coulda broke ol' spiny up good an' propah? Someone who knows magic who coulda' used any number a' tricks on alla' da previous victims an' succeed in t'rowin' a bunch'a red magikarp clues ta trick us? Some guys wuz choosin' dat Hulk guy. I dunno. He's soitenly big enough ta look like one tough customah, but wouldn't someone'a noticed somet'in dat big lumberin' t'rough da halls? I don't t'ink he could sneak up on anyone easily... plus I t'ink anyone he was aftah would be stahtled enough dat he was up an' about aftah bein' so statuesque fer so long...

Hrm... Dat Captain guy wit' da li'l wings on his noodle is talkin' to da "wacky wobblah" wit' da goatee. Da othas seemed intahrested in da dinnahplate carryin' soldiah-boy, but I kinda tuned 'im out.

Dat Doctah Strange guy seemed suspicious ta me, but he did agree wit' me earliah about da Doom Squad mebbe usin' weapons dat Doom had squoiled (squirreled) away somewheres.

Hrm... Dis is all too puzzlin'. I decided ta ask a question or two before I made my decision...

I went up ta dat Bather Rib-Ball fellah an' decided to jaw wit' him for a moment... "Hey, pal. I wuz jus' wonderin' if you wuz a pokemon like me! I wuz worried ya wuz a Digimon-- not dat dere's any'tin wrong wit' dat! *ahem* er... say! Dat's a snazzy hammah! I t'ink I saw dat at da 'Hauntah Hardware' store back home. It looks real tough... I bet it could even bend dose snazzy knives Metalface had earliah. Well, It's been real swell talkin' wit' youse! I'll see ya latah."

I'm SO smooth-- I shoulda been a supah-spy!!! Meowth!

Hulk sat in the corner of the room, looking at everyone else. He was irritated. He usually was. He didnt care much for this 'game' but he quickly learned that if he wanted out, he would have no choice.

"Hulk not like stupid humans. Hulk want to go home." Hulk said to himself as he continued to watch everyone else.

Ukyo heard the Hulk. "I want to go home, too." she said. "I think most of us do."

"But going home won't even be an option until this game's over. If we want to get this over with quickly, we'll catch one Traitor this round, and the other in the next round."

"Hulk, you've been quiet for a while. But maybe you've seen what's going on around here. Who do you think might be part of the Doom Squad?"

OOC: Remember, if you're voting, put your choice in bold type.

"Hulk not like stupid Star-man accusing Hulk either. Hulk would smash." Hulk said clenching his fist. "Hulk not kill pointy ears or spikeman. Hulk was in corner whole game!"

Cap tried to calm Hulk down. Hulk seemed to be in one of his earlier personalities. "Hold on there Hulk. I wasn't accusing you of anything yet. I was just thinking out loud while you seemed to be sleeping. Its good to see you awake now though."

Hulk continued to breathe heavily and calmed down slightly "Fine." he said sitting down.

"Hulk not know who to vote for. What does Star-man think." Hulk asked Captain America.

RUMINATIONS: Ah, we get vintage Hulk here. An interesting approach, though sadly Kholdhearted couldn't participate much in this game due to other things going on at the time.

Jeff-E was great in this game, playing the 'everyday guy caught up in a crazy mess'. He's got more great material later on in the game.

The Re-presentation continues in Part 14.
