And now part 26 of the Traitor Game Essentials re-presentation of Traitor Game VI: Back to Basics. Unfinished business from the previous Traitor Game is taken care of, and possible setup for future Traitor Games begins.

Meta-arc or not, I'm wondering if we shouldn't use this current vote to just set up a schedule of hosting, since a lot of us are coming back with old ideas.

In other words, the one who got the most votes hosts the next game, the runner up hosts after that, etc etc....

What do you think?

tangentman 02-09-2007 08:59 PM

OOC: I don't see why we couldn't rank by the number of votes to determine the order of games. There's also the radical notion of us negotiating turns without the votes and posting games in that order.

Nah. As if that'll happen. :p

Joe Acro 02-09-2007 09:05 PM
OOC: That's silly! Speaking for myself, I offered a game that could stand on its own. Don't eliminate us because the roleplayers among us (including me) might like a chance to build a meta-arc.
With the Traitor Game having no end in sight, it seems to me that a meta-arc stretching across several games would also have no end or, at least, an unsatisfactory one.

When Cologne's fingertips brushed the silver surface of the orb, she felt a tingle. The orb crackled as a small glow emanated from the alien device. A beam formed into a 3 dimensional hologram of a person quite familiar to Cologne: Donna Troy. The hologram stood approximately 12 inches in height, and resembled the future incarnation that the Chinese Elder encountered in the culmination of the previous game.

As Cologne watched the hologram, Donna gave her a friendly wave. "Hi, Cologne!"
Cologne stared at the hologram. She paused, for a while, and then spoke. "I did look for you during my interdimensional journey to help Ukyo, but I could not find you. I trust you are doing well."

Cologne smiled. "I take it you read both of my letters to you. So, how have things been in your dimension? Dr. Doom invaded nearly all of our worlds, but he has been defeated. There was another Traitor Game, this time in Doom's castle."

"Have you told all your friends about the Traitor Games? There will be more soon, I am sure of it. I have learned more about the Games since we last spoke, but I am still not sure why they are happening. But I suspect that they are meant as a test of some sort."

"I hope Wally West has recovered from his ordeal in the previous game. You will be pleased to know that Archie Andrews has been cured of the insanity that caused him to do those horrible deeds. I briefly saw him when I arrived at Castle Doom, and he appears to be feeling much better now."

Cologne smiled. "Anyway, it is good to hear from you again. I hope you are doing your best to make your world a better place."

While Cologne was pleased to hear from Donna again, she knew that there would soon be another Traitor Game. It was possible that the mysterious 'DJTSH' would be involved in the next one, or the next one's host could be someone no one could have anticipated.

Cologne did not know if anyone from her universe would be involved in the next Traitor Game. But she still intended to find out as much as she could about the Games...

OOC: I have to agree with tangentman. My idea can stand on its own, too. Any info from previous games will be filled in as we go along, so one won't need to read this one to understand what goes on in the next one.

In any case, I'm willing to go along with whatever scenario gets picked. Which character I choose to play may depend on which scenario gets used, though it seems like Eternal Torment has already chosen a character.

My original post was largely supposed to be facetious. I was just pointing out that three of us were building on events in the Traitor Game(s) to do a new story. I have come to find out that it's probably only two. And then I joked that Al would take it just for being the only one not to do so. It wasn't a jab at saying his story was more straightforward or more capable of standing alone.

I apologize for not making that clear.

Chris Lang 02-09-2007 09:21 PM
With the Traitor Game having no end in sight, it seems to me that a meta-arc stretching across several games would also have no end or, at least, an unsatisfactory one.

That seems to make sense. But, by that logic, the runner-up of last vote should get the next game. Who was that?
OOC: Well, my 'meta-arc' isn't really that much. It's just Cologne trying to find out more about the meaning behind the Games, and that's something she may never really find out for sure. Cologne just might have to content herself with just finding out about the Games she was not involved in herself.

About the only REAL 'meta-arc' is Eternal Torment's 'conspiracy' bit. But in any case, these are just little subplots, and you shouldn't need to know how they went before to understand the other games. They're just nice touches here and there. Granted, they can be sort of like in-jokes, but they shouldn't distract too much.

In any case, I'm looking forward to the voting. And if anyone else has any scenario suggestions, feel free to submit them before the Monday deadline at 11pm.

By the way, ALL the scenarios given so far seem interesting. Hopefully, we can do our best to make whatever gets picked as the next game have a good mix of dramatic tension and comedy. :)

tangentman 02-09-2007 09:25 PM

OOC: Joe, I don't see any problem with an open-ended series of games. We're enjoying ourselves when we play, and that's all we really want.

Indigo Al: There's a special reason you've gotta go with All-Dead Characters if you win! :D

IC: Donna listened attentively as Cologne caught her up on the Traitor games. She rolled her eyes when she heard of Dr. Doom's bungled ploy. "Oh Rhea, doesn't he know when he should just give up? He's even more delusional than Lex Luthor!" After that brief outburst, Donna had the grace to give Cologne an apologetic grin for the interruption.

When Cologne said her piece, Donna answered the Elder's question with a weary sigh. "My friends and I always work to make the world safe for the people we're sworn to protect. Of course, I feel like we've been working overtime lately just to keep it from tilting into the abyss." Another sigh followed that remark, but Donna thought better of showing such self-pity. "'Pity, party of one', huh? Sorry about the whining."

The dogged expression was replaced by a sterner look of resolve. "There's trouble in the multiverse and I've been recruiting heroes to fight it. A former hero here got it in his head that he can remake the world to suit his preferences." Donna clucked her tongue. "Like that ever turns out well!"
And what, pray tell, might that involve????;)
OOC: I'm jumping to the conclusion that it involves one of tangentman's favorite dead characters. Keep in mind that dead characters have shown up as player characters in Traitor Games before, and that would include Darth Vader of this game. Of course, there's all sorts of ways to include them. Time travel, alternate universes where they're still living, and so forth.

And of course, a lot of comic book characters tend not to stay dead anyway. :)

OOC: I think it's best that we end this bit here, sorry. Best not to distract too much from the scenarios. This will be the last Cologne epilogue posting in this thread. My last Ukyo epilogue post in this thread was, I felt, a good way to 'last see her' in this thread so I haven't included her in these.

IC:

Cologne responded. "While it never turns out well for those who wish to remake the world, we must always rise to oppose such people, for they cannot be trusted with the safety of the universe."

"It is good to hear from you again, but I am afraid I must end this conversation. There are several matters I have to attend to. There is my great-granddaughter Shampoo. She feels I have neglected her due to my business with the Traitor Games, and I need to be sure she will not get herself into trouble."

"I also have to speak again with Ukyo Kuonji, the girl from my world who was a part of the recent Traitor Game at Castle Doom. She has been through a trying experience, but she made it back, with the help of some friends she made there."

"Lastly, I believe that there will be another Traitor Game soon. And I am sure that at least one of our universes will have a representative summoned to participate in it."

"Until we speak to each other again, I trust you will continue in your struggle to keep hope alive within your world. Farewell for now..."

OOC: And that will be the last IC posting for me in this thread. I'll still be here to comment on the scenarios and cast my vote, though. As for Ukyo and Cologne, well maybe we'll see them again some time in another thread...

tangentman 02-09-2007 10:49 PM

"No, I understand. We have a crisis on our hands here in my universe. Which was the reason I sent the orb. If you see any red skies or overlapping timelines in your world--or worse, white anti-matter clouds--call me with the orb. I'll bring friends to help you save your world...or evacuate it." Donna smiled wistfully at Cologne. "You watch your own back in the investigation, okay? And give Shampoo a heads up about the games--there are several strong, divergent timelines where she becomes a 'contestant'. Anyway, may the Gods watch over you and yours. Take care, Cologne."

With that parting remark, the hologram instantly flickered out. Cologne was left with yet another omen of dire threats against the cosmos. Whether or not these mysteries would find a resolution remained to be seen...
With that parting remark, the hologram instantly flickered out. Cologne was left with yet another omen of dire threats against the cosmos. Whether or not these mysteries would find a resolution remained to be seen...
OOC: Which Donna was this again? I thought this was the 'current' Donna of the Infinite Crisis era. Anyway, that note went into 'don't go there' territory as far as I'm concerned. I'd rather not end on THAT ominous a note. I guess I'd better post another IC note after all...

IC:

Cologne stood there in stunned silence. The things Donna had spoken of were terrible things indeed. Such things Cologne did not wish on any world, not even the world that had produced the Shrike creature that had Ukyo so scared during the Traitor Game.

But Cologne recalled reading something about the 'crisis' in the trade paperbacks she had ordered after returning from Santa's workshop. It had destroyed numerous variations of the 'DC' universe, and its ripples had even done damage to the histories of several of its residents. As a result, the histories of Power Girl, Hawkman, and Donna Troy had become almost incomprehensible.

However, the Crisis had only been limited to the 'DC' portions of the multiverse. There was no evidence that it had any effect on any other areas. Still, it appeared Donna decided it was better to be safe than sorry. Cologne could only hope and pray for the success of Donna and her friends.

Something else Donna had said also bothered Cologne. It was not the part about Cologne having to watch her back. Cologne knew very well that her investigation into the Traitor Games could cause her some trouble. No, it was the part about Shampoo.

Donna had mentioned the possibility of several divergent timelines in which Shampoo became a part of the Traitor Game. Cologne had to wonder just what Donna knew about this. Of course, Cologne had told nearly everyone she knew about the Traitor Games, so she had already given Shampoo the 'heads up about the games'. But what did Donna know about these divergent timelines?

Cologne realized it was best to try to deal with the problems she already had. There was the mysterious source of those DVDs to consider, and there were matters closer to home. Shampoo still needed Cologne's guidance, and Cologne still needed to compare notes with Ukyo about the recently concluded game.

Cologne did not know if anyone from her universe would be chosen to participate in the next game or not. But she hoped whoever did get chosen would be up to the challenge...

OOC: If you're suggesting that I play Shampoo in the next game, I hate to disappoint you but I'm not sure if I can do it. Granted, she would be different from both Ukyo and Cologne, and it's good to play different types of characters. But I'm not sure I'm up to the challenge of playing a character with Shampoo's type of personality.

As I've said, which character I end up playing in the next game will probably depend on which scenario gets chosen for it. I might even go with a non-Ranmaverse character just so I don't get typecast as always picking Ranma 1/2 supporting characters. Of course I've grown fond of Ukyo and Cologne and will want to at least check back with them every now and then. But in any case, I won't decide on my character choice until a scenario has been chosen.

Jeff-E 02-10-2007 01:07 AM

I'm really looking forward to the next game, I've got an idea of who to play next time. Plus we've got some great theme's, I can't wait.

tangentman 02-10-2007 01:17 AM

OOC: Actually, I wasn't implying that you should play Shampoo. Donna just mentioned a possibility, not a probability.

OOC: I had my doubts about your character choice in this game, but it turned out great. You did a great job playing the 'normal guy' caught up in a crazy scenario. I loved how Jeff interacted with everyone. And wow, that last round when he votes for Captain America. I didn't know Jeff had it in him! :)

Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing who you play in the next game.

OOC: Okay, time for something lighter.

OOC: I had this idea in mind for a while, but I wasn't going to post it until I'd given each of them three action phrases instead of at least one or two. I was having trouble thinking of memorable one-line quotes from the game for all of them. Feel free to suggest some more 'action phrases', especially for those characters I didn't mention here. :)

Schornforce 02-10-2007 10:31 AM
Dude, that is awesome!!
Cool. I'm glad you liked it. :)

I love the action figures, Chris Lang! I think Captain America's soundbyte should just play patriotic music and he should have an *action salute*.

Wolverine should come with "heart flippin' action"

Batman should sing the Jigglypuff song and tell everyone to leave him alone.

Rogue Watcher would play the theme to Beverly Hills Cop and name people at random to question.

I also had a scenario idea, but seeing as how this has been my first traitor game and I have a knack of not finishing things I start, perhaps it's best that I don't.

However, if anyone's interested in hosting a game, but doesn't have an idea, I'd be glad to post my craptacular rambling notions...

The Purple Skull 02-10-2007 01:30 PM

The action figures bit was great, Chris. Here's a couple to add on to it:

Darth Vader Dark Lord Of The Sith

Action Phrases: 1. The Force is strong here. 2. I am your father. 3. No0o0o0o0o0o0o0o!

Spider-Man Friendly Neighborhood Wall-Crawler

Action Phrases: 1. Spider-Sense tingling...Danger! 2. I'm not the traitor this time!

Donald The Rogue Watcher's assistant

Action Phrases: 1. Uh...boss? 2. Yeah...whatever.

Variant - Emo Donald With special emo sayings!

Action Phrases: 1. The winter has come and it is cold....like my mother's heart. 2. My shadow is my only friend.

Available as well - Power Girl, The Monarch, and Arthur Dent! Action phrases not included :p

OOC: I like tangentman's idea of hosting duties so we'll do it like that. After voting we'll rank them accordingly to determine who'll host when. That way, everyone can have a chance to be game moderator. I'll mention this again when we start voting.

Chris Lang 02-10-2007 08:15 PM

OOC: Schornforce, Purple Skull, thanks for the additional action figure ideas. :)

Anyway, the 'ranking' idea sounds like a good one, though I assume it's flexible. For example, let's say real life makes the one who was supposed to be the next host too busy to host the next one, then I suppose whoever was next in line could do it if they felt up to it. Or something like that. I'm just speaking hypothetically here.

Just another action figure idea:

Meowth in variant Doombot Costume:

sayings-- 1. I'm one'a dem dere Gloombots! 2. Oops! I broke a vase. 3. Is it hot in here, or is it jus' me?

Just a reminder: Deadline to hand in your game synopsis is on monday 11 pm et. Voting will begin sometime on tuesday.

Here's what we have so far:

Joe Acro - Immortus' Revenge (Not actual title) Indigo Al - I'll Take Valhalla tangentman - It's In The Cards Chris Lang - A Galaxy Far, Far, Away

Also, if you more than one synopsis in mind, feel free to post it.

I'm going to try and post one before 11 PM tomorrow. If its not up be deadline then don't worry about it.

Indigo Al 02-11-2007 08:02 PM

Damn! I got hit by a sudden inspiration! But, it would fit better around Halloween, and it involves a very specific choice of character on behalf of players.....

Superheroic 02-11-2007 08:09 PM

Ah, post it anyway, October's a long way off.
That's actually kind of clever. I'll give it a name later...
Your storyline makes sense, continuity-wise. I know if I was in charge of Limbo, I would be pissed off at the fact that they are using my dimension as a holding pen for banished players. :p

Well, in my scenario, Limbo wouldn't be the place where the banished players are sent to. I do have other places in mind...:)

I'm interested in knowing what that 'Halloween' scenario is, too.

Indigo Al 02-11-2007 08:31 PM

We've got a lot of ideas floating around, and it's not fair for me to throw more things out there when I've already submitted an idea.

I'd rather hear Schornforce's idea

Jeff-E 02-12-2007 09:45 AM

So, when do we actually start voting for the next scenario's?

Superheroic 02-12-2007 10:09 AM

Voting starts tonight at 11PM. How long should they go on? Voting until Thursday? Sign-ups until Sunday? New game on Monday?

PROLOGUE Traitor Game: The Plop Thickens

The Emperor God Charon turned the shiny disc over in his hands. He hadn't seen one of these in quite some time. He looked at the Negation Science Officer who had brought it to him. The Officer was kneeling, his head down in supplication. Charon never tired of it.

"Where did this come from?" Charon asked the man.

"We--," the Negation officer began nervously. "We don't know, Lord. It--It just appeared. Its Quantum signature isn't from Negation Space. It originated from another Universe." The Officer closed his eyes tight awaiting th inevitable backlash.

"Interesting."

The Science Officer peaked out with one eye, a little more confident now that he wasn't a smoking ruin. "Its a Digital Disc Storage device, my Lord. We think--"

"I know what it is, Officer. It's primitive but it should suffice." This disc began to spin in Charon's hand. It rose up, suspended in mid-air whirling on both axis until it looked like a little sphere. Light projected out from the disc and suddenly the area around Charon and the Science Officer changed. Soon they stood in the center of a holographic image of a Castle. Charon watched as the Living Tribunal and Dr. Doom wagered against Doom's claim to the Muliverse. He saw the Tribunal teleport his champions into the castle in an effort to stop Doom and watched the events of the last Traitor Game play out. At the end, when the last Traitor was discovered and Doom eventually defeated, the holographic images closed. The disc stopped spinning and floated back to Charon's hand.

"So there is a Multiverse out there," Charon said as he looked to the sky. "Perhaps I should host our own Traitor Game? Was there anything else accompanying this disc?

"Just this, Lord Charon," The Science Officer held up a tiny yellow square of paper. On it was written:
I thought you should see this. -- DJTSH
Charon crumpled the note. "Officer, trace the disc's Quantum signature back to its home Universe and any tangential Universal paths you may find. Have the Technicians prepare to lock in on those coordinates. I'll need them ready in case I want to pursue this. Perhaps with some slight modifications this Traitor Game could supply us with much needed intel. I'd like to see what would happen should the contestants retain some small measure of control."

"As you wish Lord Charon," The Science Officer said as he began to back away.

"Oh, one more thing, Officer. Bring me Castellan Komptin. He's just the man I need to be my eyes and ears during this game. I will summon the Lawbringers." Charon finished with his hands behind his back, staring up at the stars.

END PROLOGUE

If chosen this scenario will be run using a new game mechanic: The Plop. Its been mentioned earlier in thread but I came up with something that I think will make for a more interactive game for everyone. Below is the general idea of the Plop. I will be more specific with Plopping when this scenario is ready to be played or another scenario that wants to use Plops is chosen.

Plot Points or Plops as I like to call them. What are Plops?

Plot Points are events or situations that move the story forward. In the Traitor Game, Plops are descriptive posts which move the game forward. Plops allow Characters to affect the outcome of the game in varying ways. Plops can affect the Game Environment or be used during the Voting. This gives players a reason to post other than just to vote. It allows them to actively participate in almost all aspects of the game.

Earning Plops

All Players start with zero (0) Plops. Plops can only be earned through role-playing. Role-playing in this sense means Posting other than just banishment votes and interacting with the other players somehow. But if voting only is your thing it is possible to earn a Plop with only a voting post. It is even possible to earn a Plop with an Out of Character (OOC) post.

How Plops are Awarded

The first is at the Host’s discretion. Any time a Player makes a post that the Host considers to be worthwhile, the Host can award a Plop to the Player’s character. This can be anything; an insightful turn of phrase by the character; a humorous in-character flashback post; an OOC post recommending a good restaurant. Host discretion is just that, the Plop can be awarded for anything and at any time. The only prerequisite is a good post.

The second way Plops get awarded is to be nominated by other Players. These nominations could be because of the reasons stated above or just to award a Player’s all around game play. One or two Player nominations in one round, plus Host approval will earn the player a Plop. Three Player nominations in one round will automatically earn the nominated Player a Plop.
Voting starts tonight at 11PM. How long should they go on? Voting until Thursday? Sign-ups until Sunday? New game on Monday?
I think the voting should last just long enough to give a lot of people the chance to vote. If it ends too soon, then only two or three people besides those who actually sent in scenarios will actually vote. I think it'd be good to have a good number of votes.

By the way, that scenario with Emperor Charon seems interesting, though he's another character I'll have to look up the Wiki entry on. I liked how you incorporated the subplot with DJTSH sending DVDs into your little prologue.

Of course, the contestants always did have a small measure of control. The way they behaved certainly made a difference in this and previous Traitor Games. Though the Plop thing could add an interesting new twist if it's done right. However, I've already said most of what I wanted to say about that in PMs so I won't go over it again unless I have something new to say. :)

Cool scenario, superheroic! Negation is perfect for this.
We've got a lot of ideas floating around, and it's not fair for me to throw more things out there when I've already submitted an idea.

I'd rather hear Schornforce's idea
I'm afraid my idea isn't in any sort of continuity or anything, but here's the gist of it--

Deep within the bowels (ew!) of the underworld, Ares meets with Hades. "So, dear brother. We are agreed? With my plan, together we can overthrow Olympus and be above all other gods-- not just in our realm, but throughout every last universe!"

"Yes, Ares. With my knowledge of the realm of the dead, I have allowed a few... favors in exchange for artifacts which will allow us to breach the dimensions and bring forth beings for each of us to draw power from."

Hades draws forth some of the artifacts- a sleek, black Arabian style lamp, a small silver amulet with a green stone set within, a giant animator's brush loaded with paint, a pair of slippers covered in dazzling rubies, etc.

"Excellent, brother Hades. We should set upon our mission right away-- but as you well know, that bothersome Amazon princess will attempt to stop us. She always tries."

"Hrm. She may be able to best us on occasion, but she is mortal. You are the god of all conflict and I, the lord of the underworld. Not even Athena's champion can stop us once our plans have been set into motion."

Bottom line is, Ares gains power from conflict- ANY conflict. He wants to break through to other realms and leech power from the conflict, wars, and battles and become THE god instead of one of several gods. Hades gains power from those he has in his realm.

The banished/killed would all end up in the underworld to fuel Hades' might while those left alive would fuel Ares.

Ares would set up the traitors, Athena would find out the plot in time to intervene, but as usual with the gods, decides to have agents do her dirty work. Hades would choose the vigilante (he and Ares do not trust one another). The vigilante would go after traitors AND avengers, but would have to alternate between them-- if they succeed.

I don't know how clear this all is. I thought a cool idea would be to have side quests so that way the characters can show off what they do-- instead of just talking about it (like the Doombot battle). Perhaps the characters must search for artifacts of power.

I also thought the location could change each round to add variety and keep the players on their toes.

I'm hoping more people would post if there's more stuff to play off of. I don't know if it would get too confusing, however.

Anyhow, those are my thoughts. :)

Deadline will be tonight at 11 pm et! So there is still time to hand in a game synopsis Then within the hour a poll will be set up for you guys to vote. Here's what we have so far:

Joe Acro - How Low Can You Limbo Indigo Al - I'll Take Valhalla tangentman - It's In The Cards Chris Lang - A Galaxy Far, Far, Away Superheroic - The Plop Thickens Schornforce - God Amongst Gods (Not actual title)

Schornforce - Please send in your game's title so I can add it in the upcoming poll.

EDIT: Updated Joe Acro's game title.

RUMINATIONS: Ah, we not only have the epilogues, but our OOC pitches for later scenarios. In the end, I'll Take Valhalla went with the original idea of having no character requirements and all characters were welcome. As for Schornforce's Greek mythology-based scenario, that's the only scenario of the ones pitched here that we've never ended up doing. Schornforce went with a different scenario for his first hosting gig instead.

And here's where I debut the action figure parodies. I wanted to contribute something a bit lighthearted to the bonus features, and I had that in mind for a while. I was glad to be able to use it, though I wish I could have come up with more ideas for quotes to use as phrases. I've done this bit several times since, and sometimes the phrases come to me easier than others.

Well, I think all the story-based posts are over. Next will probably be the curtain calls and the closing credits, and maybe the results of the vote for which scenario goes next. We continue in Part 27.
